Sometimes the best exercise happens in the water

For people living with MS, hydrotherapy can make exercise more accessible, more comfortable and more effective. The buoyancy of water reduces the load on your joints, its warmth can ease muscle stiffness and its natural resistance means your body is working to build strength often without feeling like it.

If you’re looking for something gentler on your body or simply want to try something different, hydrotherapy could be a good fit.

What to expect

Getting started is straightforward. Just give us a call and ask to speak with our Physiotherapy team about hydrotherapy. We'll arrange an initial assessment and goal-setting conversation to understand what you're hoping to achieve. From there, we'll recommend the session type that suits you best.

Once you're in a class, that slot is yours for as long as you want it and there are no set number of sessions to commit to. Sessions are held at Klemzig pool.

How hydrotherapy can help

The unique properties of water, particularly its buoyancy and warmth, make hydrotherapy particularly well-suited to people living with MS. Regular sessions can:
  • Improve mobility and flexibility
  • Build strength and endurance with reduced joint impact
  • Help manage and reduce fatigue
  • Improve balance and reduce the risk of falls
  • Ease muscle stiffness and spasticity
  • Support cardiovascular fitness
  • Improve confidence and overall wellbeing

Small group individualised sessions

Why choose MS Society SA & NT?

Our hydrotherapy sessions are delivered by our Physiotherapy team, who have experience supporting people living with MS and understand how the neurological condition affects movement, strength and physical function. They'll guide your initial assessment, help you set meaningful goals and provide ongoing support throughout your sessions.

Many people find hydrotherapy works particularly well alongside their regular Physiotherapy sessions, making for a more well-rounded exercise program. Sessions are held at Klemzig pool, a dedicated aquatic facility in South Australia. We can also provide intermittent visits to other approved sites, subject to site approval.
